5 Ways to Include Your Dog in Your Wedding!
If you and your fiancé are trying to figure out how to best incorporate your beloved dog into the best day of your life, here are five ways to include your dog on (and leading up to) your wedding day!
1. Ring Bearer
No better way than to say "I do" than to have your dog as ring bearer! The logistics involved will look effortless with your pup standing at the altar with the handsome groomsmen, and dog wedding attire options are very stylish.
Dog attire can range from collars with a specific clip for your wedding bands to dog harnesses with a custom pillow and fastening for your rings. Your dog is going to look pawsome as ring security!
2. Mutt of Honour
When planning our wedding, we decided to incorporate our boy Flynn as the mutt of honour. Little did we know he would take his job very seriously. Flynn was the official guest greeter. He was present at the ceremony, relentlessly flirted with the photographer and looked very dapper in his wedding bowtie.
If you decide to have a mutt of honour, your dog could easily stand next to your bridesmaids while you exchange vows. Other seating arrangements for your dog could be to sit with best friends and family members who are not in the wedding party or relax with one of Black Dog Weddings' wedding dog attendants.
For every wedding, Black Dog Weddings will set up a "camp" for your dog next to the ceremony site so they can feel present but also relaxed with some of their favourite (quiet) toys or a snack.
3. Thank you cards
Set aside time on your wedding day with your photographer, your spouse and dog to take some pictures specifically for your thank you cards.
Heartfelt thank you card photo suggestions:
A comic strip first looks with your dog.
A sign made up with a specific thank you message worn by your dog.
A photo from the recessional. Imagine you, your new spouse and your dog walking hand in hand during the wedding recessional while your photographer snaps some great pics with your wedding guests in the background.
(Hint: The last point is an item from my bucket list of wedding moments I would love to assist with for my clients. If you or someone you know is interested in a photo like this, send them my way I would love to make some magic happen!)
4. Engagement photos (and save the date cards!)
Though this is not a new idea, I think we can agree that you've already said yes to the love of your life, it would seem only natural to want to include your furbaby in your engagement photos.
Engagement photos serve as an excellent opportunity for you, your fiance and dog to get acquainted with your wedding photographer. Black Dog Weddings is available to assist with dog minding during your engagement session. We work with dog-friendly photographers during your engagement session as a second pair of helping hands. During couple photos with your fiancé, we will take your dog for a short walk, make sure your dog stays hydrated and looks fresh for the camera. Most importantly, we will be the silly humans behind the photographer with squeaky toys and treats galore to keep your dog focused on looking adorable for photos.
5. COCKTAIL HOUR PHOTO MOMENT
Over the last couple of wedding seasons, we’ve had a number of dog owners request that their pup make a brief appearance at cocktail hour. This gives the guests an opportunity to say hello to your famous dog and get a candid photo moment while you are off doing photos - the pawfect distraction, right?! Just make sure to have your pup leashed at all times and set to a particular location in the cocktail hour space so your dog isn’t tempted by any passing tasty human foods.
At Black Dog Weddings we take care of your dog, chauffeur them to your wedding venue and help you organize everything your dog will need to participate in your special day. We work directly with local venues, including wedding professionals, to navigate the logistics to make your wedding day perfect.
Black Dog Weddings offers a range of service packages to fit every need and budget. We've taken the time and care to attend to every detail, so you don't have to. Let our passion and experience handle all of the details. Allowing you, your family, and your dog simply enjoy the moment.
